A site with images and descriptions of places in South Shields taken in days gone by and of now.
Have you ever wondered what South Shields looked like years ago?
Have you moved away and wondered what it looks like now?
Do you have a story to tell on a photo or image that you would like to share?
Then go no further, e-mail your stories and old photo's to me and I'll do my very best to take a photo of the same area as it is today
Old Town Hall 1900
The area has changed dramatically over the years and many locations you will see in some of my picture have long since gone.
Take a look at our magnificent coastline with sandy beaches, Marsden Bay with its own Marsden Rock where in 1903 a choral service was held on the top.
Souter Lighthouse which was the first lighthouse in the world specifically constructed for electric illumination by carbon arc lamps when switched on in 1871.
Old Marsden village which no longer stands. A self contained village which was built in 1874 and lasted less than 100 years.
BornYesterday.org.uk is a new site, but is aiming to be full of information for anyone who is curious and interested about the town.
This website is a constant process of growth, so what you did not find today may be here tomorrow. It is worth coming back. If there is something you would like to see, or if you have a comment or a suggestion about the site please let me know.
